Mindgrub Collaborates on NASA-Led Space Apps Initiative

5/27/20

Mindgrub is proud to be a part of the global organizing team for NASA’s Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge.

Space Apps is an international hackathon where teams of up to six people work to resolve real-world Earth and space problems. Typically held annually in the fall, NASA decided to host this additional event to bring the best and brightest together to tackle COVID-19 related challenges.

NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), CSA (Canadian Space Agency), and CNES (National Centre for Space Studies) are inviting scientists, artists, engineers, and technologists to participate in this first-ever virtual hackathon. The challenge will take place May 30th - 31st and focuses on four main themes, all related to COVID-19.

  • Learning about the virus and its spread using space-based data
  • Local response/change and solutions
  • Impacts of COVID-19 on the Earth system/Earth system response
  • Economic opportunity, impact, and recovery during and following COVID-19

"Having been a part of the Space Apps Global Organizing team for several years, it's inspiring to see so many citizen scientists come out to solve these real-world problems," said Ben Slavin, Mindgrub’s Senior Vice President of Strategy and Design. “I can't wait to see what they'll come up with.”

Led by NASA, Space Apps’ organizing team includes Mindgrub, Booz Allen Hamilton, and SecondMuse. The next challenge will be held October 2nd - 4th.
