Barak Hermann

Barak Hermann is the Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Greater Baltimore. Mr. Hermann has served as the JCC of Greater Baltimore’s CEO since 2012. Prior to joining the JCC of Greater Baltimore, Mr. Hermann served as the executive director of the JCC of Central New Jersey from 2007 to 2012 and as the Chief Operating Officer and Assistant Executive Director of the JCC MetroWest from 2003 to 2007. Before joining the JCC, Mr. Hermann worked as the Director of Community Reform at Hebrew High School. Mr. Hermann graduated from Yeshiva University, Wurzweiler School of Social Work, with a master’s degree and Stony Brook University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Social Sciences. He also earned an Associate of Science in Marketing and Hotel Management from Johnson and Wales University.

Q1: 2020 was a crazy year and we are looking forward to a bright 2021. How was the JCC been impacted by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic?

Q2: Tell me a little bit more about these virtual programs being offered at the JCC?

Q3: Speaking of pivoting, the JCC recently launched the Gordon Outdoors, an extension of the Gordon Center. Can you tell me about the JCC’s Gordon Center?

Q4: Many families look forward to the JCC’s J Camps each year. Are you beginning to plan for 2021?

Q5: How is the JCC promoting diversity and inclusion through its programs and initiatives?

David Nevins is president & CEO of Nevins & Associates, a highly regarded strategic communications company and proactive public relations partner. Prior to founding Nevins & Associates in 1983, David served as the Director of Marketing for both Towson University and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. In 2001, he was tapped by the CEO of Comcast to employ his marketing expertise as President of the company’s regional sports network, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. David is a Past President of the Board of Governors for the Center Club and is a former Chairman of the Board of Regents for the University System of Maryland, a position to which he was appointed by the Governor of Maryland. David has chaired the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission and the Maryland Higher Education Loan Corporation, served as President of both the Jewish National Fund and the Towson Business Association and was a member of the PNC Bank board.

About the JCC

Founded in 1854, the JCC of Greater Baltimore is the oldest Jewish Community Center in the country and its membership reflects the diversity of Greater Baltimore. The JCC operates two full-service facilities in the Baltimore metropolitan area. Both campuses, Rosenbloom Owings Mills and Weinberg Park Heights offer state-of-the-art fitness, sports, aquatics, and wellness. Other JCC offerings include an early learning center for infants and preschoolers, summer camps, teen leadership opportunities, and numerous arts & culture programs.
