The Greater Baltimore Urban League and its auxiliaries, GBLA and The Guild, will collectively host our Mayoral Candidate Forum on January 25, 2020, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Morgan State University, Murphy Fine Arts Center. The forum will encompass a panel discussion from the 2020 mayoral candidates and its’ audience members.
As political leadership remains uncertain, The Greater Baltimore Urban League continues to progress in making social efforts to conclusively address enfranchisement, inexorable poverty and crime ratings, and the need for fair housing practices among minority residents. Our advocacy for change is embodied by our mission - "to enable African Americans and other minorities to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights". Our mission is aligned with the community's concerns and for that; The Mayoral Candidate Forum will allow the community to hear first-hand how potential candidates plan to lead Baltimore as it relates to 7 core focus areas: Crime, Education, Equity in Economic Empowerment, Healthcare, Homelessness, Transportation and City Growth.
The candidates who have been confirmed to participate include the following: Mayor Bernard “Jack” Young; City Council President, Brandon Scott; Former Mayor, Sheila Dixon; Senator, Mary Washington; T.J Smith; Carmichael “Stokey” Cannady; Rikki Vaughn; Catalina Byrd; Frederick Ware-Newsome; Shannon Wright; Yolanda Pulley; James Hugh Jones, II; Dante Swinton, and Thiru Vignarajah.
