The Maryland men’s basketball team remains No. 17 in the Associated Press poll released Jan. 20 after a 1-1 week that was capped with a home win against Purdue.

Baylor (15-1) moves into the top spot, followed by Gonzaga (20-1), Kansas (14-3) and San Diego State (19-0). Michigan State (No. 11) is the top Big Ten team in the poll, while Iowa (No. 19), Illinois (No. 21) and Rutgers (No. 24) also made the cut. It’s the first time in 41 years Rutgers has cracked the top 25.

Maryland began the week with a heartbreaking loss at Wisconsin Jan. 14. The Terps had a 54-53 lead with 13.6 seconds left, but a botched inbounds pass gave the Badgers the ball with a chance to take the lead. They did just that thanks to a corner three by junior guard Brad Davison. Wisconsin survived the final seconds, and Maryland fell to 3-3 in the Big Ten.
