Because of their commitment to quality, our sector will continue to grow stronger and Maryland will continue to be a leader in long-term and post-acute care.”

Maryland skilled nursing centers have been highly rated in key areas and continue to improve. For example, with a drop from 19.4% in 2012 to 15.6% in 2018, the rehospitalization rate in Maryland has been steadily declining. Long stay antipsychotic usage has dropped from 18.2% in 2012 to 12.4% in 2018 and Maryland currently ranks 8th in the nation for lowest antipsychotic usage.

HFAM members provide the majority of post-acute and long-term care to Marylanders in need: 4.1 million of the 5.6 million days of Medicaid care, one million Medicare days of care, and nearly six million days of care across all payer sources annually.
