The Ravens have signed former New England Patriots defensive back and special teamer Jordan Richards to the 53-man roster, taking the place of Justin Bethel, who was released Oct. 21.
Bethel signed the next day with the Patriots, which prompted the release of Richards, so on the surface it seems to amount to a circuitous Bethel-for-Richards trade, except by releasing Bethel the Ravens are expected to recoup a compensatory draft pick next spring.
The players will get to see their former teams quickly; the Ravens (5-2), who have a bye this week, and the Patriots (7-0) meet in a highly anticipated "Sunday Night Football" showdown at M&T Bank Stadium on Nov. 3.
