Howard County General Hospital’s annual “Heroes in Health Care,” an evening benefitting the hospital, raised more than $200,000, a record amount since the event started four years ago. More than 350 guests attended the evening of June 8 at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland.

The fundraiser honored the heroic acts of hospital caregivers in the emergency, intensive care, cardiac catheterization and cardiac rehabilitation departments and included dinner and dancing to the music of The Junkyard Saints. Guests heard from heart-attack survivor Patti Caplan of River Hill in Columbia.

“Once I got into the hands of people who knew what was happening and how to take care of me, I was confident I would come through,” Caplan said. “That is what happened that night. Everyone jumped into action. I realize how fortunate we are to have the incredible medical resources that we have in Howard County, and I feel I am here today because of the great care I received.”

Howard County General Hospital will hold the next “Heroes in Health Care” on June 13, 2020, with honorary chairs Howard Hospital Foundation board member Gary Garofalo and Kelly Garofalo.
