For Orioles Pitching Prospect Alex Wells, Baseball A Dream That Began In Australia

For years, the Baltimore Orioles' lack of presence in the international amateur market has been a source of widespread criticism and scrutiny. The team rarely made forays into Latin America, where teams have been uncovering franchise cornerstones with increasing frequency.

However, that does not mean that the team's farm system is completely devoid of prospects from non-American backgrounds. One of them -- Australian left-handed pitcher Alex Wells -- is starting to make a name for himself as he rises through the system.

"Once I started watching baseball on TV I always had a dream to play baseball," Wells said on Glenn Clark Radio May 10. "Baseball for me was my first priority in Australia."
