Celeste Amato
The Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers today announced its president, Celeste Amato, has been appointed to the South Baltimore Learning Center (SBLC) Board of Directors.
The mission of SBLC is to improve the self-sufficiency of educationally disadvantaged adults. SBLC is a community-based nonprofit organization providing functional literacy and life skills training, in addition to career preparation services, to residents in the Baltimore Area. SBLC is in its 29th year of operation – an incredible milestone for a nonprofit – and is now one of only a few remaining community-based adult literacy organizations still in operation.
“We are thrilled to have Celeste on the board of SBLC,” said Tanya Terrell, Executive Director of the organization. “Her passion for our mission and her commitment to stewardship are invaluable qualities to have in a board member.”
“Equity in education across Maryland is important to me both personally and professionally,” added Amato. “I look forward to serving the community through this role.”
Amato has led the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers since 2012. The statewide association of more than 130 private and community foundations, intermediaries, corporations, donor advised funds and public charities who steward more than $9 billion in assets. The association convenes grantmakers to address issues and promote alignment and action in sectors such as health, education, arts and the environment. The association is set to unveil a new name and logo at its annual conference in May.
