Former MLB outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., now an analyst for the San Diego Padres on television and radio, believes that former Baltimore Orioles infielder Manny Machado signing with a low-profile team such as the Padres is a good thing for baseball.
Machado officially signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with San Diego Feb. 21.
"It certainly bodes well that a organization like the Padres was able to go out and get a guy like Manny Machado," Gwynn said on Glenn Clark Radio Feb. 20. "…It gives some of the other smaller-market organizations some hope that they can, if it's managed correctly, be able to go out and spend on free agents."
