New Morgan State Football HC Tyrone Wheatley: Job Is 'Incredible Opportunity'

Former college and NFL running back Tyrone Wheatley was formally introduced as the new head football coach at Morgan State University Feb. 12 after a decade as a running backs coach at the collegiate and professional levels.

Wheatley takes over for interim head coach Ernest T. Jones after a 4-7 season, the eighth losing campaign in nine seasons for the Bears.

"For me, it's an incredible opportunity," Wheatley said on Glenn Clark Radio Feb. 14. "I've always wanted to have the chance to put my claim and my stake and my identity on a team. I've been able to do that with the running backs and the things that I was given, I've never come into a situation where I was able to just build from the ground up. I always inherited."
