Board of Certification/Accreditation Appoints Claudia Zacharias to Certified Association Executive Commission

1/24/19

Claudia Zacharias, MBA, CAE

The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) is pleased to announce its President & CEO Claudia Zacharias, MBA, CAE was recently appointed to serve on the Certified Association Executive (CAE) Commission. The CAE Commission is the governing body for the CAE and is an independent certifying body of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). The CAE Commission awards the Certified Association Executive credential and is responsible for setting policy and standards related to the CAE Program.

“The invitation to serve on the Commission was incredibly humbling,” says Zacharias. “I am honored to contribute my perspective from the intersection of credentialing and association management.”

Zacharias earned her CAE credential in 2008. The CAE is the highest professional credential in the association industry. To earn designation as a CAE, executives must meet educational, experiential, and specialized professional development requirements, pass a stringent examination in association management and pledge to uphold a code of ethics. The exam tests for competence and expertise in nine knowledge domains: strategic management; governance and structure; membership development; programs, products and services; leadership; administration; knowledge management and research; public policy, government relations and coalition building; and marketing, public relations and communications. To maintain the certification, individuals must complete ongoing professional development and activities in association and nonprofit management.

In her new role as a Commissioner on the CAE Commission, Zacharias will serve on the Competency Based Task Force. This committee focuses on shifting the CAE credential to a competency-based format.

“We are excited to have Claudia join us as a member of the overseeing Commission for the Certified Association Executive credential,” says CAE Commission Chair Lowell Aplebaum, CAE, CPF. “Her leadership and background in credentialing and certification will provide an essential perspective as we continue to build the future of the association industry's credential.”
