Former Maryland running back Ty Johnson is beginning his trek to the 2019 NFL Draft at the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla., Jan. 19, and he'll carry the memory of former Terps teammate Jordan McNair with him through the draft process and into his professional career.

McNair died June 13 after falling ill during a team workout May 29, and the university eventually took responsibility for McNair's death. McNair was 19.

"One of his goals throughout his career when he was at Maryland, one of them was to go pro," Johnson said on Glenn Clark Radio Jan. 15. "I'm embodying that. I'm doing that not only for myself but for him and multiple other people. I'm always keeping him in my thoughts. When I'm working out, I'm getting tired, I'm like, 'OK, I've got to do one more or two more, three more.' I know that he would push through it and get it done so I have to do it too."
