UMBC sophomore center Daniel Akin (London, England) (pronounced Ah-kinn) underwent successful surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and will miss the rest of the 2018-19 campaign.
Akin did not compete in the first 11 games of the season, recovering from a similar tear while competing for Team Great Britain in the U-20 World Championships in Germany last summer.
He returned to the court on Dec. 16 versus Florida Gulf Coast and was re-instated into the starting lineup for the next six games. In that span, he averaged 7.4 points and a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game. Akin posted his first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high (and UMBC/America East season-high) 15 rebounds at UMass Lowell on Jan. 12.
