Sophomore Bruno Fernando of the newly minted No. 19 Maryland men's basketball team has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, as announced Jan. 14 by the Big Ten Conference.
The Terrapins are back in the Associated Press rankings for the third week this season, and first since being ranked 23rd on Dec. 3. It also marks Maryland's first visit to the top-20 since being ranked 17th on Jan. 30, 2017.
The award is Fernando's first career conference player of the week honor. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice last season.
