During this holiday season, we at the Health Facilities Association of Maryland (HFAM) and Maryland Center for Assisted Living (MCAL) are especially thankful for our members who provide high quality and efficient skilled nursing, post-acute and assisted living care to Marylanders in need. We are also grateful that these providers are recognized by the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) with the National Quality Award Program.
The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program honors long-term, post-acute and assisted living providers throughout the country that have demonstrated their commitment to delivering quality care for seniors and persons with disabilities. The program is centered on the core values and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program and has three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
In total, HFAM/MCAL members have received 66 National Quality Awards with 55 Bronze and 11 Silver winners. Most recently, Sunrise at Fox Hill, Brinton Woods at Arlington West and Signature Healthcare at Mallard Bay won Bronze Awards in 2018.
Sunrise Senior Living, an assisted living provider with 17 centers throughout Maryland, has been consistently recognized for its quality care in recent years and has received 10 Quality Awards since 2016.
“Our exclusive Maryland partnership with AHCA/NCAL provides HFAM/MCAL members an opportunity to be nationally recognized,” said HFAM President and CEO, Joseph DeMattos. “The Quality Award Program, along with the Five-Star Rating system, shows that our members are committed to quality and rank among the best providers in the nation.”
The CMS Five-Star Quality Rating system is one of several indicators of a center’s quality that, when taken together, provide insight into the quality of care and quality of life residents receive. In 2017, the Maryland Five-Star Quality Rating average was 4.1 stars – higher than ever before and above the national average.
