SANS Announces New York Metro Winter Cyber Security Training Event

12/18/18

SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training, today announced SANS New York Metro Winter 2019 (#SANSNYC) taking place February 18-23in Jersey City, New Jersey. The event features hands-on immersion style training courses for security professionals at every level. SANS Faculty Fellow and courseware author David Hoelzer (@it_audit) will deliver a special evening talk on Proactive Threat Analysis and Correlation.

According to Hoelzer, "Many elements of how information security is approached today make the assumption that we will detect the attacker's activities. The facts, however, prove this to be false, with ever expanding dwell times for attackers. Something must change. My talk discusses and then demonstrates how to take threat modeling and use it to create practical automated detection capabilities using Zeek and other tools."

In addition to his talk, Hoelzer will teach his SANS AUD507: Auditing & Monitoring Networks, Perimeters & Systems course. The SANS Advanced Systems Audit track stands alone in the Information Assurance arena as the only comprehensive source for hands-on audit "how to." Hoelzer realistically addresses the "how do I get there from here?" problem by offering short-term goal solutions which, when combined, will allow students to achieve their goal: identify, report on and reduce risk in their enterprise.

SANS New York Metro Winter 2019 features courses covering a variety of topics including cyber defense, SIEM, ethical hacking, penetration testing, digital forensics, IT audit and security management. Included among the course lineup is the new SEC530: Defensible Security Architecture course which helps students build and maintain a truly defensible security architecture. Hands-on labs will reinforce key points in the course and provide actionable skills that students will be able to leverage as soon as they return to work.
