The Ottobar is one of the 10 best live music venues in the country, according to no less an authority than legendary rock magazine Rolling Stone.
“For over 20 years, this dingy-yet-beloved little rock club has hosted all kinds of bands — including improbably massive ones like the White Stripes and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs,” writes Sarah Grant.
And as Grant notes, that includes hometown acts that have outgrown the space, like Beach House, Dan Deacon or Future Islands, making a point to return to the club for jam-packed, intimate shows.
While the layout of the Charles Village club is a bit odd (see: that large steel beam), Grant rightly points out that in these small confines, “anywhere you stand feels like the front row.”
