Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame Tops $1 Million in USG Scholarship Money

11/27/18

Many students at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) will be helped through the $180,000 in scholarship money raised by the seventh annual Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame (MCBHOF) luncheon. This brings the net seven-year total to more than $1,040,000.

The Hall of Fame, founded by Grossberg Company LLP and Revere Bank, successor to Monument Bank, has two missions: to honor outstanding business leaders in the county and to raise money for the USG Scholarship Fund.

The October 30th luncheon honored four new inductees into the Hall of Fame:

  • Mark Bergel, Founder & President, A Wider Circle
  • Michelle D. Freeman, Owner & CEO, Carl M. Freeman Companies
  • Bruce H. Lee, President & CEO, Lee Development Group, Inc.
  • Jorge Restrepo, Founder & CEO, EurekaFacts, LLC

Since its inception, MCBHOF has honored 34 outstanding business leaders and raised money to support more than 550 students.

“Revere is proud to continue our support for the Business Hall of Fame and the Universities at Shady Grove scholarship fund. We are grateful to be a part of this organization which is dedicated to not only recognizing our local business leaders but also raising money for local students,” said Ken Cook, co-president and CEO of Revere Bank.

The MCBHOF was again emceed by NBC4 News morning co-anchor, Eun Yang. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan addressed a sellout crowd discussing his transportation initiative and the State’s economy. They also heard from the honorees and from USG undergraduate student speaker Konye Molina Olaya, who said her MCBHOF scholarship encouraged her and helped her stay with her studies at a time of genuine financial need.

"We are proud to help the business community invest in the future leaders of Montgomery County," said Larry Rosenblum, partner of Grossberg Company LLP. "On behalf of both Grossberg Company and Revere Bank, we would like to personally thank the sponsors, attendees and donors for their time and contributions."

All net proceeds from MCBHOF benefit the scholarship programs at USG, the University System of Maryland's regional educational center. USG brings nine Maryland public universities and more than 80 academic degree programs directly to Montgomery County on one campus.
