BBB Maryland Appoints Andrew Altman and Roy White to Board

A new group of accomplished business leaders were appointed at the September 21 meeting of Better Business Bureau (BBB)’s Board of Directors. This year, the nonprofit announced a new executive committee, as well as, the addition of two new directors to its 30-seat board.

The executive committee consists of President and Secretary Angie Barnett, president and CEO, BBB of Greater Maryland and Chair Arlene Thayer, COO, KatzAbosch, P.A.; Melissa McGuire, partner, McGuire Moore, LLC; W. Bruce Quackenbush, Jr., vice president and co-owner, American Contracting Services, Inc.; and William H. Thrush, Jr. managing principal, Friedman, Framme & Thrush, P.A.

Two newly elected directors bring a wealth of business acumen to their roles.

Andrew Altman is president and CEO of Best Buy Waterproofing LLC, a full-service basement waterproofing, moisture control and mold remediation company located in Columbia, Maryland. With over 30 years of experience, Altman is passionate about creating a value-driven company, while building strong, long-term relationships with customers. He’s a “make it happen” leader, who wants to help BBB innovate and thrive.

Roy White is president and CEO of Diverse Concepts, Inc., a minority-owned, service-disabled, veteran-owned, small business that has been providing technology solutions and consulting to government and private sector clients since June 2002. He’s active in a number of civic organizations and is also board member of the National Small Business Association Leadership Council. White wants to apply his experience to help other small businesses grow through the use of technology, digital marketing and BBB Accreditation.

To be considered for a Board position, the applicant’s company must be BBB Accredited and in good standing. Interested individuals submitted applications for current vacancies, participated in phone interviews, and met in-person for interviews with the board’s Nominating Committee.

The Board’s primary responsibility is governance and leadership. It sets policy, approves new applicants for Accreditation, and advances BBB's mission. The full Board meets an average of four times per year, in addition to conducting an annual retreat. Members are expected to recruit a minimum of two new BBB members each year, financially support BBB events, and serve on at least one committee during a portion of their three-year term.
