Startups will compete for a $25,000 cash prize at the 4th annual Beta City Venture Capital Pitch Competition on October 4th

Betamore has announced the six companies that will be competing for the $25,000 grand prize at Beta City’s sold out Venture Capital Pitch Competition at 3 p.m. on October 4th. The pitch competition is just the beginning of the fourth annual day-long event, located at City Garage in Port Covington.

With nearly 100 company applications, the six finalists were selected after multiple rounds of in-depth internal and external screening. Companies will present their company to venture capitalists, senior business and community leaders and entrepreneurs from leading companies in the greater Baltimore area. A panel of judges spanning investors to CEOs will select the winner of the $25,000 cash prize, presented by Brown Advisory.

“Brown Advisory and NextGen Venture Partners are pleased to once again support – and reward – some of the hardest-working and most innovative entrepreneurs in Baltimore. Institutional capital, networks and advice are critical elements of a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem – we hope that Brown Advisory and NextGen Venture Partners can provide and improve upon our collective ability to provide all three,” said Jacob Hodes, Head of Private Equity at Brown Advisory.

In addition to the six companies that will pitch, the Beta City Main Event beginning at 5:30PM will feature 50+ companies that will showcase their businesses and receive live feedback from more than 1,200 attendees. The winner of the Pitch Competition will be announced at the Main Event as well.

The Venture Capital Pitch Competition finalists include:

  • Avidea Technologies: Avidea Technologies uses proprietary nano-scaffold technology to rationally engineer safer and more effective vaccines for cancer treatment and infectious disease prevention.
  • Femly: Femly is a hi-tech subscription based company that manufactures and delivers organic feminine care and more.
  • Galen Robotics: Galen Robotics, Inc. is a medical device company working to commercialize the Galen Surgical Platform, a low-cost microsurgery robot, developed at JHU and aiming to assist surgeons in minimally-invasive applications.
