Drink Beers to Support Affordable Housing for Women

Hundreds rallied outside City Hall this morning ahead of a hearing on the Affordable Housing Trust, a fund that would direct millions toward building or rehabilitating more than 4,000 affordable units. Mayor Catherine Pugh has agreed to give $20 million to the fund.

There are a lot of great groups doing the work to make sure quality housing remains affordable across the city, and while the fund will be a boon to them, they still need support. One such organization is the Women’s Housing Coalition, which “is dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness for women and children by providing affordable housing and supportive services to enable them to sustain social and financial independence.”

Tonight, the coalition will hold its 4th Annual Hops for Housing at Peabody Heights Brewery, featuring live music, games, a raffle, snacks and, of course, an open bar of delicious beer. It should be a fun night–and a good retreat from the rainy weather–to help a vital cause.
