Five Experts Join The Health Project Board of Directors

Marleece Barber, MD

The Health Project, which annually confers the prestigious C. Everett Koop National Health Awards, recently welcomed five new members to its Board of Directors. The new members join the Board's 18 current Directors who are tasked with reviewing applications for the Koop Award, presented each year to organizations with proven health promotion programs that improve employees' health and well-being and achieve demonstrable business results. The newest Board members are:

Marleece Barber, MD – Lockheed Martin, Chief Medical OfficerDr. Barber is responsible for developing and executing Lockheed Martin's health and wellness strategy, which includes developing innovative methods for increasing the overall health of employees. She oversees wellness programs that emphasize the importance of risk factor reduction, good nutrition, exercise and stress management in the prevention of chronic disease. Dr. Barber is a Director of the National Business Group on Health and a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Jennifer Bruno – Johnson & Johnson, Vice President, Global Health ServicesMs. Bruno is responsible for a variety of Johnson & Johnson workplace wellness programs including energy management, resilience, executive health, employee assistance, mental well-being, work-life effectiveness and healthy lifestyles. Ms. Bruno brings first-hand knowledge and insight of employer needs and challenges from her career that spans nearly 30 years in the employer health and wellness industry.

K. Andrew Crighton, MD – Prudential Financial, Chief Medical OfficerThroughout his career, Dr. Crighton has worked to increase awareness of the direct and positive relationship between employee health and performance, and is responsible for global health, safety and medical services at Prudential. He provides leadership for Prudential's medical clinics, fitness facilities, behavioral health, work life, return to work and accommodation programs. He is a former chair of the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) Board of Directors and has held many leadership positions within health care institutions and corporations.

Janis Davis-Street, PhD – Chevron, Associate Manager, Health and ProductivityDr. Janis Davis-Street manages the health and productivity group for Chevron's global health and medical department, providing targeted interventions for identified health risks and designing health education and health promotion programming for workers worldwide. Dr. Davis-Street earned a doctorate degree in health education from the University of Houston and a master's degree in nutrition from the University of Alberta.

Jessica Grossmeier, PhD, MPH – Health Enhancement Research Organization, Vice President of ResearchDr. Grossmeier oversees the direction and execution of the HERO research agenda, which includes providing research expertise and consultation to study committees, serving as the research liaison to study collaborators and serving as principal investigator for HERO-sponsored research studies. Prior to joining HERO, Dr. Grossmeier served in a variety of research roles at StayWell Health Management. During her 20-year career in the employee health management field, Dr. Grossmeier has published more than 30 research articles and presented at numerous national industry conferences.

The Health Project is a tax-exempt not-for-profit corporation formed to bring about critical attitudinal and behavioral changes in addressing the health and well-being of Americans. The Health Project focuses on improving personal health care practices and supporting population health by reaching adults where they spend most of their waking hours: at work. Many organizations have adopted health promotion (wellness) programs that encourage good health habits and improved understanding of how to use health services more effectively by individual workers and their families.

The programs recognized by The Health Project highlight positive, productive, and well-designed initiatives that support optimal use of community and business health care resources. These best-practice programs are stored in a free web-based repository so that public and private organizations and community agencies may draw on them according to their needs, constantly improving and enlarging them through a widening user network to improve population health outcomes.
