Alex Cooper’s Fourth Generation Of Family Business Takes On Leadership Role

8/8/18

Baltimore-based Auctioneer Alex Cooper today announced that the fourth generation of its family business will take on more of a leadership role within the company. The fourth generation members include: Jamey Levinson, head of the Gallery of Rugs division and director of operations for the Antiques Auction division, and Matthew Cooper, real estate broker of Alex Cooper, who has played a significant role in expanding the company’s digital platforms for the real estate and antiques divisions. Matthew’s efforts in advancing the company’s technical operations has helped position Alex Cooper at the forefront of the auctioneer industry. This announcement comes shortly after the resignation of Jon Levinson at the age of 65, principal of the company for 40 years. Jon was third generation of the family business, which was started by Alex Cooper in 1924.

“We are excited to have the next generation take on more of a leadership role within the company. Both Matthew and Jamey bring a strong track record of expertise and success in the auctioneer business. Having grown up in the company, they have an intimate level of industry knowledge that others don’t, coupled with being digitally savvy -- they will help continue to grow our company,” said Paul Cooper, Vice President of Alex Cooper. “We thank Jon for his contributions to the company over the years and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Since the recent launch of the new Alex Cooper website and auction app, Alex Cooper has seen significant growth in auction participation and revenue. The company has also held many events and secured highly sought after art, real estate and jewelry assets since Jamey and Matthew have been more actively involved in the leadership of the company. Alex Cooper has many real estate and antique auctions planned for the coming months and continues to grow its offerings and footprint in the industry.
