DJs from three cities will be spinning records for a crowd tonight at Harbor East’s popular Sandlot. Everyone will (hopefully) be dancing together—so long as they’re on the right frequency.
This popular scheme for a party, dubbed the silent disco, uses wireless headphones linked up to different audio channels. For this event, Hollins Market urban apparel boutique City of Gods has partnered with the Sandlot to bring in three artists for guests to pick from: Baltimore club master Supa DJ Big L, Washington D.C. nightlife regular DJ Schemes and New York’s own DJ P Drama.
This may seem odd to those who are used to the convention of going to watch a live DJ set at the club, but there are plenty of reasons this trend caught on years ago. As The New York Times explained in 2015, “This is clubbing for people who don’t want to be subjected to the will of one D.J. for the evening and, because the wearer controls the volume, clubbing for people who don’t want ringing ears and sore throats the next morning.”
