Mayor Catherine Pugh Speaks During The Howard Row Groundbreaking

Poverni Sheikh Group (PSG) in partnership with the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) is pleased to announce the groundbreaking for The Howard Row.

The Project is comprised of five vacant buildings located at 407-415 N Howard Street, which will be converted into five retail spaces on the ground level facing Howard Street and 41 apartments above.

“We’re confident the retail spaces will be very attractive to small businesses and will greatly revitalize the entire 400 block of Howard Street, sparking future development,” explains Grigoriy Kostrikin, VP of Development at Poverni Sheikh Group.

Located in the Bromo Arts District, the 50,000-square-foot project is in close proximity to light rail, cafes and restaurants, many entertainment and arts venues, University of Maryland Medical Center and the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower.

The developers are hopeful this project will serve the nearby residential and office populations’ retail and housing needs, while removing the stigma related to the long-abandoned buildings along Howard Street in Baltimore.

The project was made possible with construction financing provided by Revere Bank, a community bank with a strong focus in the Baltimore/DC region.

“Howard Row is one of five projects underway on that block of Howard Street, which are former city-owned properties,” said William H. Cole, president & CEO of the Baltimore Development Corporation.  “It’s exciting to see the continued momentum of the redevelopment of the Howard Street corridor and the west side of downtown.”

Poverni Sheikh Group, committed to bringing beautiful and unique parts of Baltimore to their former glory by way of adaptive reuse, will restore the façades of the Howard Street buildings back to their historic look in accordance with the historic preservation requirements.

The developers together with the Baltimore Development Corporation marked the official groundbreaking alongside Mayor Catherine Pugh on Wednesday, July 25.

“These are the kind of things that we want to see happen in our city, because the development of these particular buildings also help to provide jobs and opportunities for people who live in the city,” the mayor said during her groundbreaking speech.

PSG estimates that this multimillion dollar development will be completed in about a year, with a projected delivery of early summer 2019.
