Alyssa Navarrete, Staff Attorney at Project HEAL (Health, Education, Advocacy, and Law) a community-based program of the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute, has been elected to The Arc Baltimore’s Board of Directors. Project HEAL is a medical-legal partnership that provides civil legal services to patients of Kennedy Krieger Institute and their families.

“Alyssa’s legal expertise and passion for helping individuals with disabilities is evident to anyone who has worked with her, and made her an obvious choice for election to The Arc’s Board,” says The Arc Baltimore’s Executive Director, Kathleen M. Durkin. “We look forward to Alyssa’s contributions as we tackle the many challenges facing The Arc in the future.”

Prior to joining Project HEAL, Navarrete served as a staff attorney in the mental health unit at Disability Rights Maryland. She previously worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Pamela J. White on the Circuit Court for Baltimore City and as an Assistant Public Defender in the Post Conviction Defenders Division of the Office of the Public Defender.

A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, Navarrete volunteers with Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA), a non-profit organization that empowers athletes with disabilities to compete in mainstream running events throughout Maryland. She was recognized as the Baltimore City Captain of the Year for ASA in 2017, and was also honored that year with the Spirit Award, a recognition given annually to the post conviction attorney who best embodies the mission of the Post Conviction Defenders Division.
