Family-owned sit-down Mexican restaurant, with three locations in Virginia, plans to seek additional sites in Maryland after opening later this year
Jose Tequilas Mexican Grill and Cantina has signed a lease with David S. Brown Enterprises, LTD for 6,700 square feet of space within a free-standing building at Owings Mills Square, located at 10490 Owings Mills Boulevard. This location represents the first in the Maryland region for the family-owned sit-down Mexican restaurant that currently operates three sites in the southern Virginia area. The restaurant is expected to open in early fall. Ken Bernstein of David S. Brown Enterprises represented the landlord in this transaction.
“My father, and founder of Jose Tequilas Mexican Grill and Cantina, has spent his entire career in this industry and formerly operated a restaurant in College Park so he is familiar with the Maryland area,” explained General Manager Frankie Ledezma. “We have been scouting locations throughout Maryland for several years and believe this site in Owings Mills, given the relative lack of competition in our category and the outstanding demographics represents the perfect landing spot.”
Founded in 1994, the menu of Jose Tequilas Mexican Grill and Cantina features a range of Street Tacos filled with Mahi Mahi, marinated pork sirloin, grilled ribeye steak, seasoned shrimp and roasted pork tips among others. Items also include made-to-order guacamoles, enchiladas, quesadillas and carnes. The restaurant also offers “go-light” options including Margarita-grilled chicken, lightly-seasoned salmon and aqua tacos, as well as vegetarian dishes. Happy Hour, featuring specialty beers, Margaritas and Sangrias is held Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 8 pm.
“We always had ambitions to grow but expansion in southern Virginia has been difficult due to the saturation of similar concepts,” Ledezma added. “Our concept gives people something different, including a fun atmosphere and over-sized portions and we view Baltimore County as a hub location in which we can continue to expand. With the closing of several national chains such as Ruby Tuesday and Famous Dave’s, it has opened up some space opportunities for us. Our restaurant is particularly attractive to families looking for an informal place to eat and unwind.”
The average Jose Tequilas Mexican Grill and Cantina restaurant employs approximately 25 people. Locations are currently operational in Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg.
Owings Mills Square, situated near the intersection of Owings Mills Boulevard and Reisterstown Road is a neighborhood shopping center anchored by Best Buy and featuring a mix of retailers and restaurants including Noodles & Company, Chick-fil-A, Jimmy John’s and Qdoba Mexican Grill.
Nearly 75,000 consumers reside within a three-mile radius of Owings Mills Square including more than 30,000 households with an average household income exceeding $90,000. More than 30,000 vehicles pass the site via Owings Mills Boulevard on a daily basis.

The full-standing building offers roadside visibility from Owings Mills Boulevard and it is less than two miles from Interstate 95.”
