Dalton Hoiles, son of former Orioles catcher Chris Hoiles, is joining the organization his father spent his entire career with. After going undrafted in the 2018 MLB Draft, the outfielder worked out with the team, and the Orioles signed Dalton Hoiles to a free-agent contract June 27.
Hoiles told Glenn Clark Radio June 28 that following in his father's footsteps in the Orioles' organization is an amazing opportunity.
"When it first happened, I didn't really know what to say," Hoiles said. "[When] I was a little kid, it was my dream to play for the same team as my dad. I think that's every kid's dream. But as soon as they said they were going to sign me, it was kind of a surreal moment, to be honest. I didn't even know what to do. It took a couple hours just to let it sink in and hit me. But once it hit me, yeah, it's actually a really, really cool thing to think about."
