LUTHERVILLE, Md. –The National Kidney Foundation Serving Maryland and Delaware has elected the following individuals to a two-year term on its board of directors:
Jennifer Spiegel Berman - CEO of MZQ Consulting LLC and senior vice president, compliance at KELLY Benefit Strategies. An employee benefits attorney with 14 years of experience, she founded MZQ Consulting, a benefits compliance company specializing in the employer reporting requirements under the ACA. Berman previously practiced at Venable and Holder Law Group and was named a Maryland Rising Star in the area of employee benefits/ERISA by Super Lawyers for three consecutive years. The University of Pennsylvania and University of Pennsylvania Law School graduate grew up in “a home shaped by kidney disease,” and finds NKF’s mission “close to her heart.” She has been an active fundraiser and donor since 2012, and has “rappelled for kidney health.”
Doug Comer – vice president with T. Rowe Price. Comer joined T. Rowe Price in 2011 and currently heads the Individual Investors’ Client Development & Advice Delivery group. He previously spent 15 years with Merrill Lynch, where he held various leadership positions in product, sales and business development, most recently overseeing participant strategy and engagement. A United States Army veteran, he served with distinction with the XVIII Airborne Corps, and participated in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In addition to graduating from the United States Signal Academy, Comer attended Thomas Edison College and is a Six Sigma Green Belt, as well as a Series 7, 66, and 24 registered representative.
Natasha Gill - assistant administrative director for Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Center. She joined Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2014, and has served as operations manager with its Palliative Care Program, in addition to holding positions with the Transplant Center. Previously, she served as an analyst with London Group International and as a solution specialist with Medimetrix Solutions Exchange. Gill earned a bachelor’s degree in science and business from the University of Waterloo, followed by a Master of Health Administration from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Through her positions with Johns Hopkins, she has often collaborated with NKF.
Jackie Kindall - CEO of Kindall Evolve Consulting. A leadership and organization development executive with over 27 years of experience, Kindall earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree in organization development and leadership from Saint Joseph University. She began her career as a human resources assistant and worked her way up to the head of HR within the financial services, quasi government and broadcast media industries .In March 2017, she launched her executive coaching, organization development and leadership consulting firm, where she assists“ rising leaders who are deeply committed to reaching the next level of their career but don’t know how to get there.”Committed to giving back, Tindall was a founding board member for National Collegiate Preparatory Public Charter High School who continued to provide pro bono consulting services after her board term had ended. Having seen kidney disease plague close family friends, she believes in NKF’s mission and is “passionate about the need for additional education regarding prevention. I am eager to serve the community and volunteer my skills and time to further a great cause.”
Kimberly Lumpkins M.D., FACS, FRCS –pediatric urologist at University of Maryland Children’s Hospital and assistant professor of pediatric surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Named a Top Doctor in Pediatric Urology by Baltimore Magazine, Dr. Lumpkins brings 14 years of experience as a physician. She completed general surgery training at the University of Maryland and a pediatric surgery fellowship at the Johns Hopkins/University of Maryland combined program, while subsequently serving as an international fellow in pediatric urology at Birmingham Children's Hospital in the United Kingdom, where she received the British Association of Pediatric Surgery Gold Medal. She is board certified in adult and pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in pediatric urology. Committed to helping the National Kidney Foundation with its mission to improve the lives of those with kidney disease, Dr. Lumpkins often serves as a media spokesperson for the nonprofit and has “rappelled for kidney health” multiple times.
Anahita Masoumi DNP, MBA, RN –director of the abdominal transplant, cardiothoracic transplant and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) programs at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Masoumi has held several roles in the transplant field, such as senior post kidney/pancreas-transplant nurse coordinator, transplant educator, manager for kidney and pancreas programs, and operations manager for the liver transplant program. She previously served as surgical nurse coordinator, inpatient nurse coordinator and surgical dialysis access nurse coordinator, senior post transplant coordinator for the kidney/pancreas programs. Through the years, Dr. Masoumi has lead innovative initiatives in the health care system, which have seen marked improvements in patient outcomes working within a complex system. Her professional goal is to develop and implement effective strategies to better support organizational, community and educational health care needs. Dr. Masoumi received her bachelor’s degree in nursing science, master’s degree in health services leadership and management, and doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, as well as an MBA from the University of Baltimore.
Silke Niederhaus M.D. - clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Inspired by her experience as a child with kidney disease who underwent a transplant, she became a kidney (and pancreas) transplant and dialysis access transplant surgeon in 2012. After graduating from the University of Alabama and University of Alabama School of Medicine, she completed a general surgery residency and transplant fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, where received the ASTS Roche Laboratories Scientist Award and Best Third-Year Resident on Transplant Award. Dr. Niederhaus later received the ATC Young Investigator Award, IPITA Travel Grant and ASTS Top Poster of Distinction Award. She has participated in NKF events since 2001 and has even “rappelled for kidney health.”
