For the sixth time in the last seven years, the Orioles selected a pitcher with the top pick in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The Orioles selected Grayson Rodriguez, an 18-year-old right-hander from Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches, Texas, with the 11th overall pick June 4 -- the highest pick the Orioles have had since 2012.
Rodriguez has verbally committed to Texas A&M, but he left no doubt that he wants to sign with the Orioles quickly.
"I guess I want to get it done as soon as we can," Rodriguez said during a conference call. "Go out there and go to Florida and get a uniform and start pitching. I'm ready."
