Historic Hotel Brexton Temporarily Closes Due To Recent Lightning Strike

5/31/18

Historic Hotel Brexton, located in the charming Mount Vernon neighborhood is scheduled to temporarily close its doors on June 11th, due to a recent lightning strike to the roof. Purchased as a condemned building in the 2000s, Hotel Brexton was fully restored by local developer Richard Naing, of RWN Development Group in 2011, and has been operating as a limited-service boutique hotel since.

Originally constructed in 1881, Hotel Brexton was once the home of Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor and well known American Socialite famous for marrying Prince Edward, who abdicated as the King of England for her. He explained that he found it "impossible to do my duty as King and Emperor without the help and support of the woman I love."

RWN Development Group invested over $7M in interior and exterior renovations. The Hotel Brexton, garnered a Baltimore Heritage Preservation Award in 2010. Additionally, Southern Living named Hotel Brexton one of the “South’s Best Hotels & Inn” in 2016, among other hotels, such as The Greenbriar.

Richard Naing, owner and developer, spent his career restoring historical buildings. “I was drawn to the story and the charm of the building,” Naing states. “At the time, new development was very popular, but I was inspired by the architectural landscape of Baltimore and wanted to preserve Hotel Brexton’s history.”

Richard Naing recently announced his retirement after a 45-year development career in Washington DC and Baltimore, and thus he has been selling many of his real estate assets. As a result, he will be marketing Hotel Brexton for Sale during this temporary closure. RWN Development group is seeking interested buyers or investors to expand the experience at Hotel Brexton. Available opportunities include some possible interior renovations, a restaurant/bar, as well as, a possible expansion to the hotel which has been made possible with his recent purchase of the adjacent rowhouse. Interested parties are invited to contact Anthony Naing, General Manager, at either 301-830-1187 or via email to anthony@hotelbrexton.com.
