The American League has the three top spots in this week's MLB power rankings, but nine of the top 15 teams are from the National League.
The Washington Nationals built a little head of steam last week after a 6-1 run. However, the weather wreaked havoc with them for three straight days, causing a suspended game and postponement against the New York Yankees May 15-16. The Nationals' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers May 18 was also rained out, leading to a split-admission doubleheader May 19.
Through the travail, the Nats went 0-3. They also were hit with yet another major injury, as utility man Howie Kendrick tore his Achilles and will miss the remainder of the season. With highly regarded, 21-year-old outfielder Victor Robles also on the shelf for the foreseeable future, general manager Mike Rizzo brought up 19-year-old outfielder Juan Soto.
