Two streaks that were gnawing at the Orioles finally ended. After a franchise record-tying 13 straight road losses and six starts without a win, the Orioles and Alex Cobb both were able to forget their troubles with a 7-4 win against the Red Sox May 18.
The 13 consecutive losses on the road equaled the team record for futility set during Baltimore's 0-21 start in 1988. Cobb, who signed a four-year, $57 million contract during the final days of spring training, won for the first time as an Oriole.
Both streaks began and ended at Fenway Park. The Orioles' slide began April 13, and Cobb's began a day later.
