Gnu Homes, formerly known as Emerald Builders, recently unveiled its new corporate branding at the opening of their model home in Hampden. “It is important that our brand reflects our fun, modern, and lighthearted philosophy in home building and buying,” explained Luke Yorke-Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Gnu Homes. “We have created a streamlined and accessible home buying process that leverages the efficient design and functionality of our homes, eliminates stress, and provides limited release, quality homes to homebuyers.”

The announcement of the homebuilding company’s rebranding to Gnu Homes came at the official opening of its model home at Redfern Row, a new townhome development offering four-story, 2150 square foot residences in the Hampden section of Baltimore City. Located on Redfern Avenue, nine of the fifteen homes in three separate buildings are now sold. Prices start in the mid $300s. Herbert Burgunder III, Member, Pessin Katz Law, P.A. (PK Law), represented the builder in the acquisition and subdivision of this property.

“Redfern Row reflects the vibrancy of Hampden with a nod to its industrial heritage, which is demonstrated in the interior design packages available, the large and spacious rooms and the height of the homes, which include lofts and walk-out balconies to create additional living space for homeowners,” Yorke-Hart explained. “We have a strong attraction to Hampden based on the momentum of young people moving into the neighborhoods, and the mature restaurant and retail amenities in the area. Redfern Row is within walking distance to The Avenue and the entire Hampden shopping district.”

Gnu Homes is also currently developing Falls Hill View, a new 16-townhome community just a few blocks from Redfern Row. Falls Hill View will also feature contemporary architecture and will boast views of the Baltimore City skyline. The Village at Gunpowder Falls, a 28-townhome development in Parkville, Baltimore County, is another Gnu Homes community in progress and will feature a modern farmhouse theme.

“We believe a large gap exists in Maryland between the national homebuilder, which deals in volume building and cookie-cutter designs, and ourselves. We focus on understanding the needs of the local buyer, integrating sustainability into our products, and providing simple and efficient designs. Gnu Homes also places extreme importance on achieving one-of-a-kind architecture and interior designs that reflect the way people live and interact with their home. This means efficient spaces, green features that preserve energy and resources, and a product that is at home in its local environment. Most of all, we want our consumers to enjoy and have fun along the way.”

“Gnu Homes has taken a novel approach to the home buying process, and they possess the experience, resourcefulness and passion needed to carve out a successful niche in the local marketplace,” said Herbert Burgunder III, Member, Pessin Katz Law. “They have done an excellent job of identifying the problems encountered by consumers and created a low-stress buying model that places an emphasis on delivering exceptionally-designed and livable homes.”
