Newly opened businesses share in enthusiasm
Bustling businesses, busy parking lot and happy tenants. Just two years since breaking ground, St. Mary’s Marketplace, located at Three Notch Road in California, MD, is open for business, and Baltimore-based developer Klein Enterprises is already calling it a success.
“We are overjoyed with what we’ve seen and what we’ve heard from tenants over just the last two months,” said Patricia Palumbo, director of leasing and marketing for Klein Enterprises. “The community has come out to celebrate various grand openings, and they keep coming back. There was clearly a need for these varied establishments, and we’re happy to have filled it.”
The shopping center’s anchor tenant, Harris Teeter, opened on January 23 and had lines around the building for its ribbon cutting and Taste of Teeter event. Café Rio hosted a ribbon cutting the same week for its fifth Maryland location with guests arriving an hour beforehand to be one of the first 300 receiving a complimentary meal. Bay County Liquors, Batteries Plus Bulbs, Nail Trix and MOD Pizza all opened doors in the following weeks.
“We are very happy with the public’s reaction to our store opening,” said John Ray, owner of Batteries Plus Bulbs. “We have several people each day that tell us St. Mary’s County has needed a store like ours for years.”
National salon Great Clips will be the newest business at St. Mary’s Marketplace, opening next week. A drive-thru Starbucks and Panda Express are expected to open this summer and will operate 2,400 and 2,294 square feet of retail space, respectively, at the 106,000-square foot shopping center.
St. Mary’s Marketplace is located within close proximity to the growing residential neighborhoods of Wildewood, Lexington Park and Solomons Island, and eight miles from the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, home to the National Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division.
