Meeting On The Future Of Pimlico Race Course Draws Large Crowd

When 150 folks or so showed up at a standing-room-only meeting regarding the future of Pimlico Race Course April 10, they heard some words of optimism that the aging race track might be replaced by a 21st century facility in the coming years, but few specifics.

The well-attended presentation was organized by the Mt. Washington Improvement Association and held at the Pediatric Hospital, not far from Pimlico. People who attended were largely from the areas that surround the track, such as Mt. Washington and Park Heights.

During the last few years, the Maryland Jockey Cub — a subsidiary of Canada-based The Stronach Group, which owns Pimlico, as well as the Preakness Stakes that’s traditionally run at Pimlico, and Laurel Park — has indicated that the deteriorating racetrack on Northern Parkway was no longer viable as the site of the second leg of the Triple Crown.
