Location, now open, represents first in Baltimore County and fourth in Maryland region for national department store chain that also operates Rugged Wearhouse subsidiary

Gabe’s, a national department store chain that promotes savings of 70% on everyday prices, has signed lease a lease with MCB Real Estate for 38,566 square feet of space within Eastpoint Mall, an 860,000 square foot regional mall situated on 7839 Eastpoint Mall in the Dundalk section of Baltimore County. This location represents the first in Baltimore County for the national department store chain that operates nearly 75 locations in twelve states including four in Maryland. Occupying the former Shoppers World space, this new lease elevates total occupancy at Eastpoint Mall to 90%. Scott Yurow of H&R Retail represented the landlord and James Murphy of Echo Retail and Ray Schupp of H&R Retail represented the tenant in this transaction. Gabe’s recently opened for business at Eastpoint Mall with more than 100 full and part-time workers expected to be employed.

“Among the strengths and selling points of a retail shopping venue is tenant differentiation and, in Gabe’s, we have attracted a nationally-recognized department store that has been highly selective in its real estate decision-making,” explained David Bramble, Managing Partner of MCB Real Estate. “This adds another destination anchor tenant to our tenant mix and, with the store’s low-cost pricing model, provides compelling reasons for consumers to visit Eastpoint Mall and take advantage of its varied product selection. Gabe’s represents the perfect complement to our mix and its presence will stimulate new customer visitations to the benefit of all our tenants.”

Founded in 1961 as a private discount fashion retailer, Gabe’s sells designer brands and fashions for men, women and children. Product categories include day-to day apparel, lingerie, footwear, handbags and accessories. Gabe’s also offers household staples such as bath and beauty products and housewares, pet food and snack foods, as well as home décor items and electronics. Known as Gabriel Brothers until a rebranding strategy in 2013, the company also operates a string of Rugged Wearhouse stores including five in Maryland. An operating philosophy of the department store chain is to have fresh new products arriving daily at each location.

Gabe’s joins anchor tenants Burlington, JCPenney and Value City Furniture and more than 100 additional tenants in the apparel, footwear, bath and beauty, jewelry, food and personal and business services categories. Located at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and North Point Boulevard, nearly 340,000 consumers reside within a five mile radius of the regional mall, with an average household income exceeding $60,000. Eastpoint Mall opened in 1956 and is recognized as among the first enclosed shopping venues in the Baltimore metropolitan region.

MCB Real Estate, headquartered in Baltimore, is a privately-held, institutionally-capitalized commercial real estate development and investment firm. Active throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, the company has developed and manages more than six million square feet of retail, industrial, commercial office and mixed-use projects.
