Quick Hits From Terps Football's First Spring Practice

The Maryland football team held its first spring practice March 5, which was open to the media. Here are some thoughts and observations from workout:

- Defensive end Byron Cowart, who was the No. 3 prospect in the 2015 recruiting class according to 247 Sports' composite rankings, ran with the first team defense. Cowart played in parts of three seasons for Auburn, but he left the program in September 2017. He didn't see the field much with the Tigers, finishing his with 15 tackles and no sacks in 14 career games.

Cowart finished the 2017 season with Hillsborough Community College in Florida, then signed with Maryland as part of the Terps' 2018 recruiting class in December. Cowart will be eligible to play in the fall. He worked with Mbi Tanyi, Oluwaseun Oluwatimi and Jesse Aniebonam on the defensive line with the ones March 5.
