Food & Water Watch Expands and Updates Headquarters in Dupont Circle

3/6/18

West, Lane & Schlager Realty Advisors (WLS) announced a new and expanded lease for Food & Water Watch at 1616 P St, NW, in Washington D.C. When the nonprofit opened its headquarters more than 10 years ago, it chose the Dupont Circle neighborhood for its proximity to the Metro and retail amenities. To accommodate growth and an outdated work space, the organization has expanded to 18,583 square feet.

Food & Water Watch is a nonprofit organization that champions healthy food and clean water for all. With wide-ranging advocacy, Food & Water Watch challenges corporations and policymakers to adopt practices that put people before profits and protect the environmental resources that make wholesome food, clean water, and sustainable energy available now and sustainable for the future. The group’s efforts are financially supported by its membership, individual donors, and foundations interested in carrying out a progressive agenda for food and water in the United States and abroad.

“After 10 years of making accommodations to fit in its existing space, Food & Water Watch was ready for an updated office in terms of the look and feel,” said Jonathan Danziger, principal at West, Lane & Schlager. “They also needed to accommodate the growth of their staff while increasing efficiency and providing the communal spaces they’d been lacking.”

“Food & Water Watch considered a number of other buildings in Washington but we were able to negotiate a very favorable buildout allowance and rent concessions, and they decided to remain at 1616 P St. in newly renovated space,” added Eric West, principal at West, Lane & Schlager.

“There is also a benefit to Food & Water Watch being in a building owned by another environmental nonprofit – Resources for the Future,” said Sam Werner vice president at West, Lane & Schlager.

The building offers a fitness center, many common conference rooms, outdoor space and close proximity to Dupont Circle’s Metro station, shopping and restaurants.

Eric West, Jonathan Danziger and Sam Werner from West, Lane & Schalger Realty Advisers guided Food & Water Watch in its property search. The owner of 1616 P Street, Resources for the Future, represented itself in the transaction.
