One of the areas influential couples Ken and Gloria Banks, will be hosting a private movie screening of Black Panther for 165 children at the Cinemark Towson Theater on Friday March 9, 2018, from 5:30 pm – 8pm. The Banks are hosting this event in partnership with two local nonprofit organizations, the Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival (BCAACF) and Baltimoreans United In Leadership Development (BUILD).
This event will allow children to see Black Panther who would not be able because of financial constraints. The Banks family and their partners believe Black Panther is a ground breaking film for African American culture. All of the leading roles are people of African heritage, which has made it a special film for African Americans. The Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival Board says, “We believe that this film has a positive message for black children beyond just being entertainment. Seeing positive images of ourselves has a long lasting affect on the human psyche in a way the helps us to be resilient and adaptive.” The Banks family believes that the images portrayed in the film will allow young black children to imagine the possibilities beyond what they may see in everyday life. And with imagination comes, creativity, growth and excellence.
Ken Banks is a real estate developer and international business consultant who travels the world developing lucrative business relationships between investment interest on 6 continents. Mr. Banks sits on the Federal Reserve Board of Richmond, University of Maryland Shock Trauma board, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health board and the University of Maryland School of Medicine board. Dr. Gloria Banks is an entrepreneur and a business success strategist, who made history when she was named Mary Kay’s top Elite National Sales Director in the world. Dr. Banks has held that title for two consecutive years. Dr. Banks is the first African American to obtain this honor in the company’s 53-year history.Dr. Banks holds a Bachelor’s degree from Howard University, an MBA from Harvard University and an Honorary Doctorate from University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival is a Maryland nonprofit organization, in its 22nd year of existence with a mission to inspire youth through it’s scholarship program for Baltimore County high school students, and supporting after school programs and summer camps for the County’s youth, preserve African American history and culture in Baltimore County and produce a free festival each fall in Baltimore County. BUILD is a non-partisan, interfaith, multiracial community power organization rooted in Baltimore’s neighborhoods and congregations. BUILD is dedicated to making our city a better place for all Baltimoreans to live and thrive. For more than 35 years, BUILD has worked to improve housing, increase job opportunities, and rebuild schools and neighborhoods, among other issues.
