Loyola Holds ‘Building a Better World Through Business’ Event Series

3/5/18

Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management will present “Building a Better World Through Business,” an annual series of events celebrating the good business does for society by transforming the world through sustainable economic and social development. The series will take place March 20 to 22 on Loyola’s main campus in Baltimore.

“We are producing the leaders of the future—leaders with an entrepreneurial spirit,” said Kathleen Getz, Ph.D., dean of Loyola’s Sellinger School of Business. “I hope they will graduate with an optimistic approach to their work and their lives. I always encourage students and faculty to see a world of possibilities, rather than one of burdens.”

“Building a Better World Through Business” will begin with a keynote address by Casey Gerald, co-founder and former CEO of MBAs Across America. He will present “Purpose Is the New Bottom Line” on Tuesday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. in McManus Theatre.

Gerald co-founded MBAs Across America in 2013 when he and three Harvard Business School classmates asked, “What if we used our education not to make a buck, but to make a difference?” They drove 8,000 miles across America in an RV to work with purpose-driven entrepreneurs and launched a three-year program connecting business students with small businesses.

His work has been featured in The New York Times, Financial Times and Forbes and on NPR and the HLN documentary series “Growing America.” Gerald was featured on the cover of Fast Company’s “Find Your Mission” issue and presented the closing talk at TED2016. He is writing his first book, “There Will Be No Miracles Here.”

“Building a Better World Through Business” will continue with a breakfast and panel discussion, “Loyola, Business, and Community Partners: Coming Together to Build a Better Baltimore,” exploring the relationship between business and community partners in driving Baltimore’s growth and development. John Brothers, president of the T. Rowe Price Foundation and Program for Charitable Giving, will moderate the panel discussion, which will take place Wednesday, March 21, with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and discussion at 9 a.m. in McGuire Hall West.

Other events include an entrepreneurial poster and pitch competition for current undergraduate and graduate students proposing innovative ideas and sustainable solutions that respond to challenges the Baltimore community currently faces. The event will take place Thursday, March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.in McGuire Hall West.

“Building a Better World Through Business” events are free and open to the public. To learn more and register for events, visit www.loyola.edu/better-business.
