Dr. Kevin Cullen
The American Cancer Society Board of Directors has elected seven new members, and announced new key officer leadership positions for 2018 including chair of the board. Their term began on Jan. 1, 2018.
Kevin J. Cullen, MD, director of the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Distinguished Professor of Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine has been named 2018 Chair of the Board. Dr. Cullen also announced the newly elected members of the Board: “The extensive talent and knowledge of our existing and newly elected Board members is critical to helping the American Cancer Society continue its mission to lead the fight for a world without cancer by attacking cancer from every angle.”
A widely recognized oncologist with a specialty in head and neck cancer, Dr. Cullen leads the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center that ranks as one of the nation’s top cancer centers. In 2011, Dr. Cullen was appointed by President Obama to a five-year term as a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board, an advisory committee to the National Cancer Institute.
The American Cancer Society Board of Directors consists of 21 members, which includes five officers and 16 directors. The all-volunteer board is responsible for setting policy, establishing long-term goals, monitoring general operations, and approving the organizational outcomes and allocation of resources.
