Maryland signed freshman guard Darryl Morsell last fall with an expectation that he would bring the size, toughness and defensive versatility the Terps lacked from the guard spot in recent years, along with a keen knack for rebounding and deft passing ability.

Morsell, a 6-foot-4 Baltimore native and Mount St. Joseph graduate, was a different breed of perimeter player than Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon had recruited in recent years. Jared Nickens, Dion Wiley, Jaylen Brantley, Kevin Huerter, Anthony Cowan and Justin Jackson were all known as shooters before coming to College Park, Md. Morsell didn't have the same reputation.

But Turgeon said at Maryland's media day Oct. 31 that Morsell has "really improved his shot since high school" and is "shooting the ball well for us in practice." Morsell revealed that he has altered his shot since coming to Maryland with the help of student managers Jamal Gross and Mike Williams.
