Ziger/Snead Architects Receives AIA Baltimore’s Grand Design Award For The Second Year In A Row

10/29/17

The American Institute of Architects’ Baltimore Chapter awarded the SNF Parkway with the top honor, the Grand Design Award, during its Excellence in Design Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 13th. It is the second year in a row Ziger/Snead has received the Grand Design Award, with the Baltimore Museum of Art winning in 2016.

The awards were determined by the 2017 Excellence in Design Awards Jury, which comprised of AIA members from Seattle, WA. Along with SNF Parkway, Ziger/Snead’s Slate House received an Honorable Mention.

SNF Parkway: The new SNF Parkway stands as a physical record of the technical and cultural evolution of film from its earliest days to today. The design approach celebrates the accumulated layers of each movie era with intentional contrast to modern interventions.

Slate House: Situated on 3 acres and surrounded by Maryland Environmental Trust land, the Slate House is a contemporary retreat that respects the nature and legacy of the vast and densely wooded site. The new 7,000-square foot building replaces a late 60’s, ranch-style house that was destroyed by fire.

AIA Maryland is the state chapter of the American Institute of Architects. AIA Maryland offers education, government advocacy, community redevelopment, and public outreach to support the architecture profession and building industry.
