Johns Hopkins has become the latest athletic program from the state of Maryland to form a partnership with the Baltimore-based global performance brand Under Armour. Beginning this fall, Under Armour will supply uniforms, training footwear, apparel and equipment to each of Johns Hopkins' 24 varsity athletic teams.
"When you think about Under Armour and Johns Hopkins, you think about Baltimore," Johns Hopkins athletic director Alanna Shanahan said. "We're both very public about our investment in the city. There is value for both places. Because of our location, we can have our students access the Under Armour corporate campus through both internships and permanent employment. It's also an opportunity for them to partner with nationally recognized programs at both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels."
The Blue Jays are the sixth NCAA Division I program in the state to align with Under Armour, a group that also includes Loyola, Maryland, Navy, Towson and UMBC. The Johns Hopkins men's and women's lacrosse programs, which compete in the Big Ten, are the school's only participants at the Division I level. The Blue Jays' 22 other teams compete in NCAA Division III and are members of the Centennial Conference.
