Maryland didn't produce a winning NCAA Division I women's soccer program during the 2016 season, but with a host of veterans returning for the 2017 campaign, the state could get its first NCAA Division I Tournament participant since UMBC won the 2013 America East title and earned an automatic berth.
The 2017 season begins Aug. 18 for each of the state's Division I teams. The season's first weekend includes the annual Battle of Baltimore, which involves Loyola, Mount St. Mary's, Towson and UMBC, and an Aug. 20 meeting between Navy and Maryland.
