After an 8-8 campaign that ended short of the playoffs for the third time in four years, there were five key numbers that typified the Ravens' 2016 struggles. With veterans reporting to training camp July 26, and with the majority of the offseason moves made -- although there will still be changes to the roster -- it's time to revisit those numbers and see what the Ravens have done about improving them.
5.76 -- Passing yards per play
The problem: The Ravens ranked 26th in the league in passing yards per play, with the offense frequently reverting to checkdowns and short passes that failed to utilize quarterback Joe Flacco's arm strength or wide receiver Breshad Perriman's speed. Far too often, the Ravens failed to succeed on third down because a pass was thrown 2 or 3 yards short of the chains and the receiver failed to gain that distance.
