Former Orioles executive Kevin Malone joined Glenn Clark Radio July 10 and shared his thoughts on how the Orioles' front office should approach the MLB non-waiver trade deadline July 31.
"To me, the mentality is we're going for it, we're going for it, we're going for it, until there's a reason not to," Malone said. "So to me, if [Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations] Dan Duquette called me or [Orioles manager Buck Showalter] called me and said, ‘What would you do?' I'd say you reload and you come back out and you go for it."
The Orioles are 42-46 and are four games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the second wild-card spot. With six other teams within five games of the Rays at the conclusion of the All-Star break, the Orioles must decide whether to play for the postseason or part with assets and build for the future.
