Baltimore Orioles prospect Ryan Mountcastle sees his future at shortstop, regardless of whether others share his vision. The 20-year-old infielder for the High-A Frederick Keys leads the Carolina League in runs, hits and doubles.
In the field, however, he has a .950 career fielding percentage, which is more than three-hundredths lower than injured Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy, who ranks fourth all-time in fielding percentage for shortstops at .9832.
"I think I can be a big league shortstop, and I don't really care what anybody else has to say about it," Mountcastle said on Glenn Clark Radio July 6. "I just try to block it all out, and I know what I'm capable of."
